The social-ecological system’s approach will be the conceptual framework for this project and shall encompass and integrate (Figure 1):

  • Assessment of ecosystem services
  • Assessment of local livelihoods and income generation
  • Analysis of common pool resources management
  • Students from our partner university in Morocco will develop their own approaches and the task will be to bring together the different ideas and perceptions and explore solutions from different perspectives as part of a cultural dialogue.

Tasks for the participants are:

  • Review of the social-ecological system’s approach, ecosystem services, livelihoods and common pool resources management
  • Integration of a nature scientific view with the role of culture and cultural traditions
  • Develop possible solutions for resources management and sustainable regional development based on the social-ecological system’s approach
  • Discussion of possible solutions with the Moroccan students
